Stokes Seeds, with operations in Holland, Michigan, and Thorold, Ontario, Canada, has switched its business to commercial pricing only.
Stokes Seeds, founded in 1881, no longer ships seeds to consumers unless a Canadian’s minimum order is $125, and a U.S. gardener’s is $250. Taxes and shipping may also apply. Stokes has been a go-to merchant for seeds for North American gardeners for decades.
Stokes has partnered with Territorial Seed Company, Cottage Grove, Oregon, to fill the garden seed and supply needs for U.S. gardeners. I couldn’t find a similar partnership with a Canadian seed company. The OntarioGarden Facebook page is where I learned about Stokes Seeds’ changes.
Territorial Seed Company has a welcome page for Stokes Seeds customers. There, Wayne Gale, owner and president of Stokes Seeds, cited “changes in the marketplace” as the reason Stokes no longer would offer seeds and supplies to home gardeners in the United States.
