For a traditional holiday flavor, visit Conservatory Crossing at Garfield Park, a land of Christmas villages, G-scale toy trains, music and 700 poinsettias. This is the second year for Conservatory Crossing, brought to Indy Parks through the support of the Indiana Rail Road Company.
Dec. 13, Santa Claus will be at the conservatory from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., for Holiday Family Day with free admission. For a fee, you can get your picture taken with Santa. At Garfield’s Burrello Family Center, Mrs. Claus is working on holiday crafts.
From 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, it’s Candelight Crossing, a reception with food and drinks. Individual admission is $5; $15 for families. Reservations are required. Please call (317) 327-7580.

Master Gardener classes
If you’d like something for 2009’s to-do list that’s fun, educational and rewarding, sign up to be a Marion County Master Gardener.
The next classes begin Jan 8 and runs 18 weeks with day or evening, three-hour sessions. Classes will be at the Purdue Extension-Marion County Office, 6640 Intech Blvd., near West 71st Street and I-465.

Be a Tree Steward
If trees are more your thing, you can become an Indiana Tree Steward. These trained individuals volunteer in their communities, such as with their homeowner or neighborhood associations, tree boards, landscape committees at work or their kids’ schools.
The next session will be 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Jan. 24 and Jan. 31 for classroom work, and 9 a.m. to noon, March 21 as a work day. A program of the Indiana Department of Natural Resources Division of Urban Forestry, the $20 fee includes materials and lunch.
The workshops will be at the Hamilton County Fairgrounds, Extension Office, 2003 Pleasant St., Noblesville, Ind.
