Irvin Etienne shares some glorious fall images from the Indianapolis Museum of Art, spiced with his usual humor and insight.
While he’s bragging about his trees, I’d like to hear a cheer for an unexpected surprise: my burkwood viburnum (V. burkwoodii) is a beautiful shade of red, something I don’t think I’ve observed before. The other burkwood is all green, but it’s in a much shadier locale in the landscape.

My Viburnum carlesii is very red this fall, too. It always has good fall color but this year I think it is as red as a burning bush. It’s in full sun.

It is a great year for fall color in Viburnums. Even a crepe myrtle in our nursery is incredibly colorful this year. Simply beautiful.
