I can’t think of a better way to ring in May than Orchard in Bloom. And the Hoosier Gardener has a pair of tickets to give away for this wonderful, fundraising event held at Holliday Park in Indianapolis, April 29 through May 1, 2011.
Also, the Hoosier Gardener has two tickets to give away to the Garden & Natural Living Symposium, 8:30 a.m. to noon, April 29, which includes admission for the day at Orchard in Bloom.
All year long, families and other volunteers at The Orchard School work on the three-day event. The 22nd annual show will be April 29 through May 1, 2011. Orchard in Bloom has raised at least $100,000 for Holliday Park, which is where the event is held.
It’s an incredible undertaking for the volunteers for the event, which has many activities for the whole family as well as gardeners, plant geeks, collectors and others.
Under huge tents, landscape architects, contractors and designers create landscapes and gardens that prompt visitors to develop wish lists for their own yard or patios.
Outside, visitors will find mini-gardens, built by plant societies, garden centers and others. There are plant sales, garden ornaments, paintings, tabletops and many other opportunities to find something special. And, if you get hungry, you can dine on local, fresh food.
Speaking of fresh, this year’s honorary chairwoman is Sara Snow, who’s Get Fresh with Sara Snow can be seen on the Discovery Network. I was privileged to be the honorary chair of Orchard in Bloom in 2008.
New this year is the Garden & Natural Living Symposium, which features Jo Ellen Meyers Sharp speaking on new plants and under used plants for the Indiana garden. Snow will give the keynote address on Turning Your House into a Healthy Living Home; Regina Mehallick, owner and chef of R Bistro Restaurant, will talk about Recipes from the Garden; and Pamela Jay and Jen Love-Tillotson of Traders Point Creamery will talk about Growing Healthy Families: Creative Adventures in Nature and Nutrition.
To register for the two drawings, please leave a comment specifying if you’d like the tickets to OIB or the symposium and why. Only one entry per person, please.
The drawings will be at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 26, 2011. Winners will be notified by e-mail.
